Panel topic: Leading Classroom Transfer of Knowledge: Does the Emphasis on Faculty Research Create an Ethical Dilemma?
A panel discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of the primacy given facutly research and the impact upon students and the transfer of knowledge. An ethical component recognizes the dilemma of balancing the demands of maintaining a stream of research and publishing against the commitment to serve as a catalyst to the learning process of students.

Sigma Iota Epsilon Chapter Vice President Honored at
AFCEA International Conference
Lexington, MA, 28 Jul 2014 -- Mr. Scott Hardiman was honored at an Armed
Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA)
international conference held in Baltimore, MD, last month.
AFCEA is a non-profit association serving the military, government,
industry and academia as an ethical forum for advancing professional
knowledge and relationships in the fields of communications, information
technology, intelligence and global security.
Hardiman was a charter member and Chapter Vice President of Sigma Iota
Epsilon while receiving his MS Degree in Systems Management from the Air
Force Institute of Technology in 1990. He is presently Deputy Chief,
Space, Aerial and Nuclear Networks Division (AFLCMC/HNA) at Hanscom Air
Force Base’s Air Force Life Cycle Management Center.
He received the prestigious “AFCEA Leadership Award” in recognition
of his significant contribution to Lexington-Concord Chapter’s ability
to sustain a positive business image, advance a strong partnership
between industry, government and AFLCMC, and support the AFCEA
In his nomination, AFCEA Lexington-Concord Chapter President Bud Vazquez
praised Hardiman for his leadership in a variety of roles, including
spearheading the Chapter’s New Horizons Symposium, enhancing the value
and capability of its Executive Committee, finding innovative ways to
improve Chapter/Government collaboration, and orchestrating a signature
ROTC Awards event that involved coordination with more than 20
A particular noteworthy instance, according to Vazquez, was Hardiman’s
efforts to increase mutual understanding between Government and
industry: “He assembled a group of media experts, including three
reporters and a TV News Anchor to form a Media Panel. Its topic was ‘A
Partnership to Better Inform the Public: Understanding the Government,
Media and Industry Relationship,’ and it became a highlight of our
last New Horizons.”
In sum, Vazquez praised Hardiman as a “superlative champion of AFCEA,
and singularly deserving of this award.”

Merrimack College Inducts 100 New Members
One hundred juniors and seniors were initiated into Merrimack College’s new chapter of Sigma Iota Epsilon, the national honorary and professional management fraternity, this past spring.
SIE encourages and recognizes scholastic excellence and promotes cooperation between the academic and practical aspects of management. Initiates must hold at least a 3.25 GPA.
James Francis, national president of SIE and a professor of management at Colorado State University, attended the ceremony. Steven J. Kelly ’81, CFA, a vice president at Goldman Sachs, was the guest speaker.
