Initiation Ceremony
Initiation ceremonies are conducted either annually or bi-annually depending
on the local chapter. Based on your university’s policy for researching GPA,
form a list of students who meet the criteria to join SIE listed under Membership
and send them an “invitation
to join SIE"
.
Order initiation materials per instructions listed below. Your ceremony can
be as simple or complex as you wish and may include a banquet, reception,
speakers, or a simple initiation ceremony based on the Ritual
for Initiation
. Include family members in the invitation (or encourage the
initiates to do so). Additionally, consider inviting distinguished faculty in
your college and your dean/associate dean to the ceremony.
Initiation Materials Order Process
Local chapters should following the procedure outlined below to order
initiation materials.
- Submit a written request for initiation materials including:
- A Word document containing a list of all students who wish to
be initiated and have met the criteria for membership into SIE. Please
use 12-point font or larger and number the names. Make sure the
names are typed exactly as they are to appear on the certificate.
- The initiation date.
- Option number of initiation package from Initiation
Fee Sheet
– most students choose Option #1).
- Name, address, and phone number of advisor for shipment of
certificates and pins.
- Mail the request to reach* the national office no later than 5
weeks prior to initiation date (or date you wish to receive materials).
The printer needs a minimum of four (4) working weeks to print certificates.
*Note: It may take 5-10 working days for CSU to receive this request and
route it to the SIE office on campus. Please take this into consideration
when submitting an order.
- Include one check for total initiation fees plus
shipping
from either 1) the local SIE chapter account, 2) the host institution, or 3)
the faculty advisor.

SIE Honor Stoles/Cords Order Process
Chapters should send a written request for honor stoles/cords to the SIE
National Office. The following information should be included:
- Number and color of stoles (stoles come in either gold or garnet with the
Greek letters SIE embroidered in the contrasting color).
- Number of cords (these are all alike – one gold cord and one garnet cord
tied together with tassels).
- Date of ceremony the stoles/cords will be distributed or worn (graduation,
initiation ceremony, etc.).
- Name, address and phone number of faculty advisor for shipment.
- Payment in one check for total of stoles/cords plus shipping
from either 1) the local SIE chapter account, 2) the host institution, or 3)
the faculty advisor.

- Mail the request to reach* the National Office no later than 2
weeks prior to the date needed. *Note: It may take 5-10 working days
for CSU to receive and route your request to the SIE office on campus.
